History (continued)
In their third attempt at winning the cup, they played Gosforth in the final on April 8th 1933. The opposition had a slight advantage in the tight scrummages, but in half backs Goldsmith and J. Clark, Ashington were markedly superior. The half backs continually kept Gosforth's backs on the defensive. Ashington scored their first try through Percy Bates after a break and pass by J. Clark, Robinson kicking the conversion. The second try was scored after H. Clark crossed the line with the support of his forwards. The try was not converted. Gosforth countered strongly in the last few minutes of the game, and scored a consolation try through their wing three quarter. The kick at goal failed and Ashington ran out worthy winners by 8 points to 3.
1949/1950 - Percy Bates was appointed club President. Percy was one of the founder members of the club, and went on to become Ashington's first County President .
1950's - The rugby club continues to turn out three teams on a regular basis, treating visiting teams to after match teas in the Recreation Hall, but then moving on to The Middle Market Social Club for an after match drink.
1962/63 - The first Clubhouse opens
